2014-15 ACI Worldwide IT Innovation Scholarship (Closed)

Description:

ACI builds on more than 35 years of experience of delivering systems to process payments for banks, processors and retailers around the world. ACI's reputation is based upon the success of products that have consistently provided stability, scalability and reliability. Customers have come to trust ACI because of these products and because of ACI’s expertise and dedication. ACI has more than 5,000 customers including 21 of the top 25 banks and 14 of the leading retailers globally. ACI also has more than 170 processors as customers including leading global processors such as Euronet, First Data, Global Payments and Worldpay.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Undergraduate in IS&T- Sophomore Class Standing or Above
  • Two scholarships will be awarded to students in CSCI, MIS, ITIN or IASC
  • Scholarships are competitive– GPA of 3.2 or Above
  • Completion of at least one semester at UNO

 

Renewable/Date:

The ACI Scholarship is not renewable. Previous recipients are ineligible for this scholarship.

2014-15 Community College Transfer Student Scholarship for Women (Closed)

Application Submit Date:

Completed applications must be submitted by Monday, March 31, 2014.

Description:

Female students transferring to UNO from a community college located in the state of Nebraska or from Iowa Western Community College will be eligible to apply for a $2,000 scholarship funded through the Women Investing in Nebraska grant for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 academic years.

Amount/Term:

$2000/academic year

Eligibility:

Applicants must be female students transferring to UNO from a community college located in the state of Nebraska or from Iowa Western Community College and enrolled full-time in a major at the University of Nebraska at Omaha's College of Information Science and Technology. Preference will be given to new, incoming students to the College of IS&T at UNO. Selection of winners is based on financial need and GPA. Preference will be given to transfer students new to UNO in the fall of 2014. 

Renewable/Date:

The scholarship is renewable for one additional year if the winner remains enrolled in the College of Information Science & Technology major and satisfies the quality of work standard and the GPA requirements of the college.

2014-15 ConAgra Foods IT Scholarship (Closed)

2014-15 David and Linda Hinton Scholarship (Closed)

Application Submit Date:

Description:

Emeritus Dean of IS&T, David Hinton, and his wife, Linda, established this scholarship to assist IT students with textbooks and school related materials.

Amount/Term:

$500/academic year

Eligibility:

Applicant must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time in the College of Information Science and Technology.

2014-15 Donald C. Reichart Memorial Scholarship (Closed)

Application Submit Date:

Completed applications must be submitted by Monday, March 31, 1014.

Description:

The family of Donald C. Reichart established this fund to commemorate the life of Mr. Reichart who passed away at the age of 55 years. Mr. Reichart was born in Nebraska and worked as a Systems Engineer for Teradata and Microsoft, where he was published in journals and developed a software design for which he received a U.S. patent. The scholarship provides educational opportunities in IT for Nebraska students.

Amount/Term:

$1000/academic year (awarded annually - subject to availability of funds)

Eligibility:

Applicant must be an incoming freshman (except for renewals) enrolling full-time at the College of Information Science and Technology; majoring in Computer Science; cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; U.S. citizen; and a graduate of a Nebraska high school.

2014-15 Firstier Scholarship (Closed)

Application Submit Date:

Completed applications must be submitted by Monday, March 31, 2014.

Description:

Firstier Bank delivers quality financial resources designed to assist with the prosperity of its clients and the community. Firstier Bank offers personal and business banking, financial planning and lending services in Nebraska and Wyoming.

Amount/Term:

An amount equal to full tuition (up to 12 credits per semester) and student fees will be awarded for the academic year. Awarded annually- subject to availability of funds.

Applicant must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time in the College of Information Science and Technology.

2014-15 IS&T Women in IT Scholarship for Graduate Student (Closed)

Description:

Diverse teams create innovative work. Yet, few women see a career for themselves in information technology. There have never been more career opportunities in IT than there are today. The University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Information Science and Technology is uniquely positioned to help address the critical shortage of women in IT. The IS&T Women in IT Scholarship is designed to recruit and retain women in University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Information Science and Technology programs. 

Amount/Term:

$2,500/academic year

Eligibility:

The IS&T Women in IT Scholarship for graduate students is based on academic merit (minimum GPA of 3.0), completed essay questions, service to the community and financial need. Students must have completed at least one semester at UNO. Applicants must also submit a resume along with their application. Recipients of this scholarship will be expected to provide service on average of 50 hours per semester to initiatives that relate to outreach to schools in the community and women in IT activities.

2014-15 Jean Hartranft Holtmann Scholarship (Closed)

Application Submit Date:

Completed applications must be submitted by Monday, March 31, 2014. 

Description:

Frank Hartranft, who worked at UNO teaching physics and computing for 28 years, and his wife, Shirley, created this scholarship in honor of their daughter, Jean Hartranft Holtmann. Jean received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in UNO’s Computer Science and IT programs nearly 30 years ago. This scholarship supports the Women in IT Initiative and helps encourage young women to enter the IT workforce.

$1,000 per academic year

2014-15 Michael C. Mulder Founding Dean's Scholarship (Closed)

Application Submit Date:

Description:

This fund was established in memory of the Michael C. Mulder, former Dean of the College of Information Systems and Technology. Dr. Mulder was the founding dean of the College of Information Science and Technology.

Amount/Term:

$500/academic year (awarded annually- subject to availability of funds)

Applicant must be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time in the College of Information Science and Technology.

2014-15 ProKarma Scholarship (Closed)

Description:

2014-15 Randolph A. Walling, Sr. Scholarship (Closed)

Application Submit Date:

Completed applications must be submitted by Monday, March 31st, 2014.

Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to commemorate the life of Gail Walling Yanney's father, Randolph A. Walling, Sr.. Randolph Albion Walling, Sr. was born in Rochester, New York, on May 9, 1905. He graduated from New York High School in Fairport, New York, in 1922 and attained his Bachelor's degree in engineering in 1926 from Union University in Schenectady, New York, where he was active in an array of academic and athletic endeavors.

After graduation, Mr. Walling went to work for Ingersoll Rand Company advancing  to Assistant Manager for the Chicago region. In 1942 he left Ingersoll Rand and his family moved to Omaha where he established The Walling Company, a manufacturers' representative organization for heavy machinety and mechanical systems. He served as President and Chairman of the Board  of The Walling Company until he retired in 1979.

Mr. Walling retained an active interest in the world of engineering until his death in 1986. He was always anxious to help and support students who had an interest either in engineering or in flying. And most telling of Mr. Walling's spirit was his resolve, just before his death, to master the new engineering miracle, the computer.

Eligibility:

Students meeting the following criteria shall be eligible for this scholarship:

a.) Candidates must be enrolled in or intending to enroll in the Peter Kiewit Institute, University of Nebraska.

b.) Candidates shall be in the top 1O% of their high school graduating class.

c.) Candidates shall have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 or above.

d.)  Candidates shall be graduates of a Nebraska High School or any Iowa High School located west of Des Moines, Iowa.

e.) Candidates shall have expressed a desire to pursue a career in Information Science or Engineering following graduation from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Scholarships may be renewed for one additional academic year upon application and satisfactory performance by the recipient. 

2014-15 Richard M. Goldstein Scholarship (Closed)

Description:

The Goldstein family established this scholarship in memory of Richard M. Goldstein who was a computer science major student in the College of Information Science and Technology.

Amount/Term:

$2000/academic year

Eligibility:

Applicant must be a current junior, senior or graduate student Computer Science major enrolled full-time in the College of Information Science and Technology. Applicant must be a first generation college student and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference shall be given to students with a demonstrated financial need.

Scholarship may be renewed for one additional academic year upon application and satisfactory performance by the recipient.

2014-15 Union Pacific Cyber Security Scholarship (Closed)

Description:

Eligibility:

Applicant must be a junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled full-time in the College of Information Science and Technology, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference shall be given to candidates who have declared a major in Information Assurance or have taken classes in Information Assurance or related disciplines.

2014-15 Union Pacific Scholarship (Closed)

Consideration may be given to advancing the educational goals of diversity and cultivating a rich campus environment at the University of Nebraska, including but not limited to considerations of a candidate's economic disadvantages, neighborhood and  community circumstances, and the impact of a candidate's cultural experiences, backgrounds, and special talents. Such considerations shall be made on an individualized basis and not on assumptions based on gender, race, ethnicity, or national origin.

2014-15 UNO Advantage Scholarship (Open)

Application Submit Date:

Completed applications for the 2014-15 school year are due Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

Description:

The Advantage Scholarship is a tuition scholarship for an amount up to the difference between resident and non-resident tuition.

Amount/Term:

Tuition scholarships for an amount up to the difference between resident and non-resident tuition. The number of credit hours may vary based upon availability of funds.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate: Entering freshmen in upper 30% of high school class or scored 23 or more on the ACT or 970 or more on the SAT; transferring students who have cumulative GPA of 3.0; underrepresented minorities or individuals with special talents; entering graduate and professional students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for all work done prior to enrollment at UNO.

Graduate: 1) Entering graduate and professional students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.0 scale) for all previous work attempted at all colleges attended prior to enrollment at the University of Nebraska;  2) GRE or GMAT scores will be utilized to rank candidates

Candidates applying after the deadline will only be considered for this scholarship if additional funds are available.

Ongoing renewal of the UNO Advantage scholarship is subject to maintaining a 3.00 GPA in the program, continuing in good academic standing per Graduate College Quality of Work Standards and availability of funds.

2014-15 UNO NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Award Winners’ Scholarship (Closed)

Application Submit Date:

Completed applications must be submitted by Monday, March 31st, 2014.

Description:

Winners of the national or affiliate NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing will be eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship.

Amount/Term:

$1,000/academic year (6 scholarships are available)

Eligibility:

Applicants must be winners of the national or affiliate NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing and enrolled in a major at the University of Nebraska at Omaha's College of Information Science & Technology. Preference will be given to new, incoming students to the College of IS&T at UNO.

* The student applicant shall not have been awarded, nor will be awarded by August 15th of this year, any ONE scholarship having a value equal to or greater than one year’s total cost of attendance (full ride) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. If such award is accepted AFTER submitting this scholarship application, it becomes the obligation of the recipient to report this fact to the university. The scholarship will then be awarded to an eligible runner-up.
