University: University of Nebraska - Omaha Research: OPNET is used to support a variety of research efforts. It is used in Masters and PhD research as well as papers for conferences. OPNET has proven invaluable in researching such topics as small packet impact on large networks; SIP over 802.11, and other topics. We will continue to use OPNET to support our research efforts. Teaching: OPNET is used in various courses to support the educational objectives of the university. Case studies are developed for students to work through to aid in the understanding of protocols and how they behave under adverse conditions. Currently they are cases for: queues, LANs, WAN, Frame Relay, TCP/IP over Frame Relay, Congestion management in FR & ATM, wireless, VOIP. Additional cases are constantly being developed to keep up with the changes in technology. This installation supports the college of Information Science & Technology and the college of Engineering at the University of Nebraska at the Pete Kiewit Institute. OPNET is used to support a variety of course work in the area of data communications. Two examples are CSCI 8210 Advanced Data Communications and IASC 8410 Distributed System and Network Security.
